Brenchley: In automarking, what is important is predictive validity, not necessarily understanding what's going on (i.e., machines don't read in the same sense that humans read). #LCR2019

Brenchley: Prospects: Continuation of current practice, production of more specialized corpora, triangulating data (e.g., eye-tracking data), etc. Development of a spoken counterpart to the CLC. Currently collaborating with CUP, ALTA, and the Engineering department. #LCR2019

Brenchley: Corpora are useful for automarking as well. Relevant outputs include Linguaskill writing automarker, Linguaskill speaking automarker, and diagnostic testing, the last of which is part of a larger framework of Learning Oriented Assessment. #LCR2019

Brenchley: English Profile Programme. Cambridge Learner Corpus is a good resource but since the data source is exams, the communicative context available in there is limited. --> Cambridge English Corpus and Cambridge English Profile Corpora #LCR2019

Brenchley: Cambridge English has long-standing commitment to developing corpora: e.g., CLC, EP Corpus. Corpora have been used to better specify learner performance & proficiency, for rating scale development, item-writer guidance, examiner training, etc. #LCR2019
